WILBRAHAM – With a 17 percent voter turnout, Wilbraham resident’s made a decision about whether or not they would allow marijuana sales in town at the annual election on Saturday.

The only question listed on Saturday’s ballot was Question One.  Wilbraham residents overwhelmingly voted to prohibit the operation of all types of marijuana establishments as defined in MGL 94G, Sec. 1.

Additionally, Wilbraham elected 10 individuals to various positions of office.

Susan C. Bunnell was re-elected for the Select Board position for a three-year term, beating out David A. Sanders, who has been serving on the Planning Board.

The Hampden/Wilbraham Regional School Committee had two open spots, and with five candidates, the results show the committee is gaining Sherrill Caruana and Patrick O. Kiernan.  Caruana is the soon-to-be-retired Principal of Stony Hill School, while Kiernan is a businessman and Wilbraham parent.

Caruana commented, “I am amazed and grateful for the large show of support from town voters.  I pledge that I will work diligently to earn their confidence by putting children first in every discussion held, every position taken, and every decision made during my three year tenure on the Committee.”

Wilfred R. Renaud Jr. was elected as Cemetery Commissioner.  The Water Commissioner position will be filled by Thomas D. Pilarcik.  John M. Wesolowski was selected to be the town’s Assessor.  Each of the three men will be serving three-year terms.

The Planning Board will now have James J. Rooney serving a five-year term, as well as James E. Moore Jr. for a two-year term.
