The so-called “Fair Tax” is a way for the elite who manage our economy to solve a problem which they have created.  Since they shipped so many jobs to cheap labor countries the Americans who used to do those jobs and pay into the government now take from the government.  A person who made $65K costs at least $30K taking into account what he would have paid in taxes vs not paying it and taking a pension and Social Security.

The economists, which I have read, say that to be revenue neutral the sales tax would have to be 33 percent.  I calculate that a person making $20K a year would pay $4K more in federal taxes.  This money the person will not have to spend on purchases.   Goods and services will cost more for the purchaser.  

The very well off spend on things that are not taxable.  They can even spend out of the jurisdiction of the USA.   The term “Fair Tax” is simply fraudulent advertising.
