East Longmeadow Green Committee seeks 2 members

The Board of Selectmen recently established a "Green Committee" with the mission of exploring all alternative energy sources and resources available to our community that could positively impact our economic and environmental status and continue to be a regional and statewide leader for environmental responsibility. East Longmeadow has been recognized as the third leading recycling community in the state. Last year, East Longmeadow recycled more than 3.8 million pounds of material, saving the equivalent of 376,000 gallons of gasoline, 21,900 trees and enough plastic bottles to make 12,800 fleece jackets. You are to be congratulated for your efforts! Recycling is but one way that we can continue to make our community green. This committee will research and present ideas that will help us reduce our energy needs, make better use of our resources and minimize our impact on the environment. Of course, reducing the costs of running our homes, businesses and government is a goal that may provide the most tangible benefit to us all. The Board is looking for two citizens that want to make a difference in our community. The Board of Selectmen strongly encourages citizens that have an interest in participating on this committee to submit a letter of interest and resume to Board of Selectmen, 60 Center Square, East Longmeadow, MA 01028; or via e-mail to nbreault@eastlongmeadowma.gov. All citizens are encouraged to apply, but special consideration may be given to those with experience in the energy or environmental sciences. James D. Driscoll Chair, Board of Selectmen
