School Committee no longer effective

July 9, 2020 |

Editor’s Note: The following is a resignation letter addressed to Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee Chair Patrick Kiernan.

Patrick,

It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter to inform you that, effective immediately, I resign from the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School Committee. I take this action after serious thought and careful deliberation. My time on the committee has been interesting, to say the least.

Unfortunately, the Regional School Committee has consistently chosen to act in ways to which I can no longer be a party. It has allowed itself to be distracted from its primary function of ensuring that all students receive a quality education and develop skills that will help them lead productive and successful lives.

Furthermore, the Committee spends extensive time on extraneous issues, which are neither productive nor effective, and have little to no impact on test scores or student achievement.

I’m confident that if the Regional School Committee changes its priorities and returns to an educational system of which we can all be proud, the students of Hampden and Wilbraham will have a bright future. I wish the committee every success in returning to the path of educational excellence.
