Thank you Longmeadow

After realizing Longmeadow had not yet made plans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a group of residents rallied to coordinate a community-wide tribute to the innocent lives lost on that day, and also to honor Longmeadow’s Police and Fire Departments for their tireless service to our community.

While the list of local businesses, departments, and individuals who helped bring this event together is exhaustive, the 9/11 Longmeadow Remembers committee wishes to extend special thanks to Henry Cropsey — for his opening rendition of Amazing Grace; to Longmeadow’s Floral Fantasies — for their donation of the beautiful Ceremonial Wreath; to Longmeadow High School’s Lyrics Chorus — for lending their inspirational voices; to LCTV — for producing and broadcasting the event (Ch. 12), and providing the ceremony’s public address system; and to Longmeadow’s Department of Public Works — for their assistance with selecting, and planting the lovely Chanticleer Pear Memorial Tree (to the left, and behind the Veteran’s Memorial).

Additionally, the committee wishes to extend its thanks to all who donated their time, and talents to making this ceremony possible. And finally, thank you to all who joined us on the Town Green in recognition of this solemn anniversary. Hopefully, by recognizing this day, we will recall the same spirit of pride, and unity that permeated our nation in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
