This isn’t art

Dec. 29, 2016 |

It is difficult for me to understand how anyone can respect the so called “art” in the photo in your article in the Dining & Entertainment section of the Dec. 22, 2016 Reminder. The story of the Emperor Without Clothes comes to mind. If you and your readers remember, these weavers came to a king and convinced him that they would weave the finest cloth and make the finest clothes for him to wear in a royal parade. They conned him to wear these fine clothes in the parade and nobody dared to admit that the king was walking down the street completely naked, without any clothes, never mind any fine clothes.

I think these so called artists are con-artists, just like the weavers of fine cloths. They would tell critics of their so-called art that they are ignorant and uneducated in art. That is why so many people are afraid to call it what it really is. I have heard of people dipping an animal's tail in paint and holding a canvas behind the animal’s tail so when it was moved it caused it to brush the canvas, or throwing paint at a canvas etc. Anyone, even the animal, can paint these so-called works of art. There is no skill involved and no meaningful image or message. I don’t wish to hurt anyone’s feelings but wish people would think for themselves and not be conned.
