GREATER SPRINGFIELD – Link to Libraries is throwing a party to help celebrate nearing the milestone of half a million books donated to areas schools and libraries.

The biannual gala will be April 5 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $40.

Susan Jay Kaplan, co-founder of the literacy effort, explained to Reminder Publications through the generosity of the Log Cabin’s owner Peter Rosskothen all of the ticket sales will go to the organization.

Link to Libraries donates books to 400 sites a year, Kaplan said. The all-volunteer organization knows something about “passion,” which is the theme of this year’s gala.

She explained local celebrities would be at the food stations talking about what motivates them, The list included Spiros Hatiras, CEO of Holyoke Medical Center, White Lion Brewery founder Ray Berry, Take Magazine Publisher Mike Kusek, Attorney Amy Royal, MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis and Log Cabin/Delaney House Executive Chef Mick Corduff among others.

The 11 different food stations make up “quite an interesting mix of food specialties,” Kaplan said.

There will also be two raffles during the evening, she added. The Log Cabin will be decorated with artwork by Springfield school children.

Kaplan hopes that if a person is interested in the event but can’t come, they would consider buying a ticket that would then be donated to a local educator.

Kaplan said, “There will be fabulous food, networking, people and more. No speeches.”

To buy tickets, send check made out to Link to Libraries to Karen Blinderman, P.O. Box 958, West Springfield, MA 01090. No tickets sent. The names of the attendees will be listed at that night at the registration desk.
