Incumbents maintain seats, Santana elected to School Committee

BELCHERTOWN – On a hot and sunny day on May 16, Belchertown residents cast their ballots at Belchertown High School as part of the town’s annual election.

On the ballot there were three contested races between the Select Board, School Committee and the Board of Health. Reminder Publishing reached out to the candidates to discuss their thoughts on the election.

In the Select Board race, incumbents Jen Turner and Ed Boscher, who received 860 and 785 votes respectively, defeated newcomer Luke Dunn, who received 685 votes.

Turner said she was looking forward to the upcoming term.

“I am honored and humbled by the support shown to me by our community. I am excited for the future of Belchertown and grateful that I am able to continue the work we’ve begun over the last few years. Thank you to all the voters, the poll workers and the Town Clerk Terry Camerlin, for putting together another wonderfully run election. Together we will keep moving our community forward,” she said.

Boscher said he was also happy to be able to continue his work on the Select Board.

“The Belchertown voters made it clear they value progress, transparency and accountability when they re-elected me to the Select Board. As a public servant, I understand the work that is being done in local government must benefit all residents of our community. I would like to thank all the voters that came out to make their voices heard, I have heard all of you. Now we go forward,” he said.

With Diane Brown’s seat up on the School Committee, Natalie Santana received 877 votes and defeated Jonathon Ritter who received 535 votes.

For the Board of Health, incumbents LeeAnne Connolly received 840 votes and Jim Potter received 792 votes, which defeated Victoria Noble’s 682 votes to maintain their seats.

In terms of the uncontested races, Elizabeth Pols maintained her seat on the Planning Board with 1,030 votes, and Raymond Goff maintained his seat on the Board of Assessors with 1,006 votes.

While Reminder Publishing reached out to several candidates for comment, only Boscher and Turner responded by press time.
