Cummington Annual Town Meeting slated for June 4

CUMMINGTON – On June 4, Cummington residents will take part in the Annual Town Meeting at the Community House at 7 p.m. to vote on 17 warrant articles.

Cummington Finance Committee Chair Dennis Forgea told Reminder Publishing via email the financial details for the warrant would be finalized during a meeting with the Selectboard on May 27.

Article 1 is a vote to fix the salaries for all elected town officials, including the Board of Selectmen, town assessors, the town clerk, moderator, and more.

Article 2 is a request to raise and appropriate money for the town’s general government accounts, which includes official salaries, the Planning Board expense, the treasurer’s salary, and other fees for boards and commissions.

Article 3 is a request to raise and appropriate money to fund the Highway Department’s account, including funds for the garage, salaries, and administration.

Article 4 is a request to raise and appropriate funds for the School and Library accounts while Article 5 is a request to fund the Veterans Benefits account.

For Articles 6, 7, and 8 residents are asked to raise and appropriate funds for the town’s Protection of Persons and Properties accounts, Health and Sanitation accounts, and Debt and Interest accounts respectively.

Article 9 is a request to raise and appropriate funds for several unclassified accounts, which includes the Council on Aging, Social Security, the Recreation Committee, cemetery maintenance and more.

Article 10 is a request to set a cap for the Community Housing Revolving Account and the Inspectors Revolving Account while Article 11 is a request to accept the Annual Town Report from 2019.

Articles 12, 13, and 14 are requests to raise and appropriate funds for the Fire Department Capital, Cemetery Capital and  Highway Capital funds.

Articles 15, 16, and 17 are housekeeping items that would allow the Board of Selectmen to apply for all federal, state, or other grants, allow them to authorize employment for several town departments, and to allow the town to accept any Chapter 90 money for roads and highways.
